Yo everyone!
I’m sitting in a white leather recliner with my white on an Italian cream-colored rug that’s made out of long-haired goats. Welcome to our apartment! Minus things like…trash cans, shower stoarge things, and cleaning supplies, this baby was furnished for FREE with the generous help of our friends and especially families.
It seems like everyone has stuff they don’t use or need sitting around–pretty nice stuff, too–and Nick and I just happened to roll in and take it off of their hands. Both sides win.
We live in a well-loved, quirky little apartment in a adorable house in the hip area of Grand Rapids. Down the block we have fancy and funky restaurant’s, a local pub or two, used book stores, etc. Across from our apartment we have a little ice-cream shop. Next door is an art gallery. We’re stealing their internet. Chumps.
Our neighbor’s name is Todd; he’s nice and pretty likable. Ghost is here; Luna is coming later today. That brings up something sad.
…we got Luna a shock collar.
We didn’t really want to, but she can’t be barking her head off at every little noise and every time someone opens the exterior door. So…..we were going to go for the citronella one, but after talking to the guys at PetSmart, they persuaded us to go with the shock. Both of them use it on their dogs and they were telling us what to expect. We feel pretty bad about it because, well, Luna is a barker through and through. She’s also very sensitive, so I’m afraid she will try so hard not to bark and she’ll start shaking with anxiety and nervous tension because she can’t let it out through a bark (this is what she does when she sees a squirrel).
So. Now we see. To make up for it, we also got her a little engraved, bone-shaped ID tag from the mall machine and a sweet new toy. Poor puppy.
Ghost loves her new, temporarily dog-free home. She is flying all over the place and being really outgoing and curious. Hopefully Luna likes this place, too. I think there are a lot of dogs in the area–the lady downstairs has some giant monster of a dog, too.
My job is going well. I’m still in training for two more weeks. Then it is one week of vacation in Palm Springs and then to work for an unknown amount of forever. I’ll have to work Saturdays, which is kind of crap, but at least I’ll make some money. And it will hopefully help me keep up with Chineeee.
Ok, I’m going to get ready for my jorb.
If she does freak out, we did a different option. We got our dog this thing that makes a high pitched noise every time he barks so that he learns not to bark through that. It doesn’t hurt him, it just bothers him so he doesn’t bark. Humans cant hear the pitch It worked pretty well for us, as he’s a nervous puppy as well. So if it doesn’t work out, let me know and I’ll send you the info. Yay for new stuff!!
Hi Jen, greetings from Taichung.
Sorry for the intrusion, but seems you’re easy to locate.
Please pass this message to the owner of the ”have a nice day” sweater, she forgot in my car during last hash.
Bye.
So now you’re in GR for the foreseeable future? Not a shocking turn of events, but I must have missed a post or two (or seven!). Are you coming south for the shower weekend extravaganza? Perhaps we can catch up then.
After 4 weeks of Chinese, I can use simple phrases, understand the tones and can count (hesitantly, but correctly). Pronunciation is another thing entirely (i.e. did I just say “mother” or “horse”??!?
